Published in the East Valley Tribune on 4/1/2008. | SCARS REMAIN TOUR BENEFITS FOUNDATION The SCARS REMAIN TOUR worked with the foundation on a SOLD-OUT show in Westerville Ohio, and a hot show at Rocketown in Nashville., TN, which was our first show out of state. The unfortunate part, was the fact that 300 people were turned away at the doors of Westerville Christian Auditorium. DECYFER DOWN kicked the show off with up tempo rock songs lead by Caleb Oliver on vocals. The band's songs "Break Free" and "Fight Like This" were highlights featuring solid guitar work by Brandon Mills. Florida-based FIREFLIGHT was lead by the strong vocal talents of Dawn RIchardson on poweful pop rock songs that included "Waiting" and "Drop The Attitude". These bands are definitely going places. A rock'n'roll spectacle called FAMILY FORCE 5 hit the stage with force and style. FAMILY FORCE 5 is lead by brothers Solomon, and Jacob Olds that have burst on the rock scene as the "Live Show" to see, and they lived up to the billing. The band featured the songs "Kountry Gentlemen", "Earthquake"and the smash hit "Love Addict". The band will be spreading their postive rock to stages of the WARPED TOUR this summer. Headliner, DISCIPLE, showed that they are one the most powerful bands in Christian rock both on stage and lyrically . Kevin Young showed his vocal strength, along with Brad Noah's guitar on songs that included "Worth it All", "Only You" and "Shine Down". Young's smooth transition to ballads came through on their recent hit "After The World". Drummer Tim Barrett and bassist Joey Fife were exceptional on songs that included "Scars Remain", "Game On", and "The Wait is Over". Young also showed that he is not afraid to let people know that reason that get on the stage, to share God's good news. The foundation has worked with DISCIPLE three times, and looks forward to many more successful shows! STYX /THE AFTERS BENEFIT SHOW at LC PAVILION - THE AFTERS hit the stage with pop rock sound from their Sony release I Wish We Could All Win with songs such at " The Way You Are", the up tempo "Someday" and their hit "Beautiful Love" that was the theme song for the MTV Series '"8th and Ocean" and was featured on the movie soundtrack for "Just My Luck". Josh Havens lead vocals were strong along with the band's overall stage presence that captured the crowd at Lifestyles Communities Pavilion with their uplifting rock sound.
STYX took the stage with exciting renditions of many hit songs including "Renegade", "The Grand Illusion", "Blue Collar Man" to "Fooling Yourself". Lead vocalist, Lawrence Govan's voice was crisp and his lively stage performance were highlighted on many of the songs throughout the evening. James Young and Tommy Shaw showed how the band has endured throughout the years with their exciting 'live" show that included "Crystal Ball" , "Madamemoiselle " and "Man In the Wilderness". 38 SPECIAL with Jaimie Gilbert and Gary Balser of The Britt Balser Foundation
38 SPECIAL& THE ELMSFIRE UP PROMOWEST PAVILION
38 Special hit the stage with a whirlwind of rock'n'roll that lasted an hour and a half, fronted by Donnie VanZant and his energetic stage antics. The band kicked right into "Rockin' Into the Night" and followed with hit after hit, including "Stone Cold Believer", and "Twentieth Century Fox". The lead guitarist Danny Chauncey, along with bassist Larry Jungstrum, keyboardist Bobby Capps, and drummer Gary Moffatt cracked into each song with intensity including "Fantasy Girl" and "Chain Lightning" . Don Barnes vocals were superb throughout the night on "Back Where You Belong" and the hit melody that included "Teacher, Teacher", "Back to Paradise" and "Somebody Like You". Donnie Barnes led into the song "Rebel to Rebel" that talked about his late brother VanZant of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and was very sharp on the new VANZANT song that has topped the country video charts, "Help Somebody(Get Right With the Man)" based on getting right premise of getting rightwith Jesus! In the 80's the band crossed over the Southern Rock genre to the Pop Rock scene with songs "Caught Up In You" , and "Hold on Loosely" that they concluded the show with. The Elms opened the show up with a set of clear cut rock led by vocalist Owen Thomas, and the guitar work of Tom Daugherty. "Speaking In Tongues", "She's Cold" and "Lifeboat" were some of highlights of the tight set of music that they played that is reminiscent of a younger Tom Petty. Columbus-based High Impedance opened the show with a mixture of 80's and current rock music that got the crowd on its feet. Brad, Rob, Rick, Bob, who are all friends of the foundation, combined to bring out some crowd appealing music.
